Weinkeller restaurant in Niagara Falls has some pretty unusual neighbours.
Look out one window and you’re gazing at Casino Niagara, the original gaming hall in Niagara Falls where thousands of winners, and a few others who lost, have dared fate over the years.
Look the other way, and there’s Nightmares Fear Factory, possibly the scariest attraction in Canada.
What are you gonna do … except ask for a menu and look forward to a wonderful meal, some pleasing beverages and a relaxing meal so close to the famous falls you can see the mist in the sky.
Weinkeller, at 5633 Victoria Avenue in the heart of the country’s most famous tourist district, describes itself as a craft winery and fresh food experience.
Owner Chris Dobson moved to the Honeymoon City in 2008, but has worked in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years. Mostly, that time has been spent in the same kind of restaurants that Weinkeller is – places with a relaxed atmosphere, with an urban feel and that offer fresh, tasty meals.
Entrees run the gamut, from chicken to fish, pork and steak, and pastas. And then there are the Weinkeller customizations, like sautéed onions, garlic and herb shrimp, and fresh shaved horseradish.
The desserts look pretty good, too, so save some room for cheesecake, crème brulee, chocolate wonton and any of the other offerings that could be a meal in themselves if you’re not watching your weight.
Hope you like wine – and what’s more relaxing with a splendid meal than wine? Weinkeller has a lengthy menu of whites and reds, and a fine choice of beer, too.
If you haven’t figured it out already, ‘weinkeller’ is German for wine cellar. Appropriate, eh?
When you’re there, eyeball the massive brick fireplace and fine woodwork. Nothing compliments a fine meal better than the perfect surroundings.
And the restaurant is perfectly located, whether you are headed out to explore the famous Clifton Hill district or just coming back from the casino or one of the other attractions.
For more than 50 years the Victoria Avenue and Clifton Hill area has been the heart and soul of Canada’s most famous tourist destination.
After your meal, head back down the hill and – if you make it past the casino without stopping – visit the falls and see why millions of people still include Niagara Falls on their bucket list.
A reputation like that is earned, and Niagara Falls continues to please year after year.
And with restaurants like Weinkeller, you can see why.
