The first day of Autumn is September 22nd. The weather is crisp with sunny days and the beginning of fall foliage season. It’s a spectacular sight when we watch the transformation of green leaves turn into bright patches of reds, orange, gold and yellow. The fall colours reach their pinnacle in October, as the tree lined Niagara Parkway and the hiking areas in Niagara transform into the most perfect photo opportunity. Better yet the hotel prices drop, along with the crowds if you prefer a more relaxed visit to Niagara Falls. Pack in layers and bring a cozy sweater and comfy shoes to explore the area. Restaurants in Niagara Falls offer all the comfort foods such as hot soups, fall harvest Niagara wines and pumpkin desserts of all kinds. If you haven’t visited Niagara Fall in the fall, then you’re missing out on one of the most spectacular seasons to visit.

The best way to see the fall colours in Niagara Falls

Of course you can go by foot, go by bike or drive down the Niagara Parkway on the Niagara Falls WEGO system, but here’s a list of other ways to see the beautiful colours.

CLIFTON HILL SKYWHEEL

Climb into a climate controlled gondola onboard the famous Clifton Hill Niagara Skywheel. Up to 6 people can fit into the gondola if your exploring with a group. Take your time as the Ferris Wheel spins around to give you the perfect angled view of the American Falls and the surrounding fall foliage.

HORNBLOWER NIAGARA CRUISES

Cruise past the fall colour on Hornblower Niagara Cruises. This famous boat attraction offers a great view of the Niagara Gorge, the American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls outlined by a wooded escarpment.

SKYLON TOWER

The Skylon Tower’s Observation deck is the perfect 360 degree view of the entire Niagara Region. As far as the eye can see the view of the fall foliage is exceptional on a clear day. The Skylon Tower stands 160 meters or 520 feet from street level. Take a yellow bug elevator way up to the top, but don’t forget your camera you’re going to have a lot of photo opportunities.

NIAGARA HELICOPTERS

Taking a helicopter over the Niagara region is probably the most spectacular way to view the autumn colours in the Niagara Region. You can choose the classic tour beginning with the Sir Adam Beck Generating plant and the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture, the tour follows the Niagara River from the Whirlpool area (look for the Spanish Aero Car crossing the gorge), over the Whirlpool Rapids and the Rainbow Bridge. The helicopter passes by the American Falls and the Skylon Tower. Just when it looks as if you will reach the Fallsview area, your Niagara Falls helicopter tour begins to change direction following the curve of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Rainbows appear and disappear from all directions. The helicopter levels off and continues along the route back to base.

What ever your viewing pleasure Niagara Falls is a must see on your vacation bucket list.
